Ray J is getting candid while reflecting on losing the lead role in ‘Drumline’ to Nick Cannon.
On January 27, a new episode of ‘We Playin’ Spades with Nick Cannon and Courtney Bee’ was released via YouTube. Additionally, the episode featured Ray J as a guest. Furthermore, about 24 minutes in, Cannon praised Ray for his career — specifically in acting.
However, while Cannon was speaking, Ray J said, “They don’t let me in the movies now, man.”
In addition, Ray explained that he doesn’t know why. However, Cannon kept the conversation moving asking, “Did you audition for ‘Drumline’?”
In turn, Ray asked why Cannon was “doing that” to him, adding that he knows Cannon knows the “story” of what happened. Ray explained that when he went in to read for the role, he was “underprepared.”
“I was a mess! It was like… it was disgusting. Performance was at an all-time low. Terrible,” he said.
As he continued speaking, Ray admitted that he feels the role just wasn’t meant for him but instead meant for Cannon.
” And they’ll tell you like it was really supposed to be locked in, but, again, it wasn’t for me it was for you,” Ray said, speaking to Cannon. “So whatever kind of manifesting you were doing, it curved me.”
Per Complex, Cannon previously revealed that he secured the ‘Drumline’ role with the help of Will Smith.
As The Shade Room previously reported, the singer also made headlines earlier this month. At the time, the father of two took to a livestream with fans to share an update on his marriage to Princess Love.
Ray explained that Love wants to continue with her latest divorce filing “sometimes.” However, he wants to stay married. Ultimately, the singer explained that he and Love are currently “legally separated.”
